During this workshop:

1. Experts from Disaster Risk Management Agencies and National Meteorological and Hydrological Services from five countries (Cuba, France, Italy, China/Shanghai and USA) will share their good practices in EWS, experiences and lessons learnt;

2. Regional initiatives in support of disaster risk reduction and particularly EWS will be discussed; National capacities and gaps related to planning, legislative, institutional and operational aspects of EWS of countries in the region will be explored;

Priorities of action for the development of national EWS and opportunities for regional cooperation will be identified.

The expected outcomes of the workshop are:

1. Participants will benefit from exchanging experiences with experts from countries with good practices in EWS;

2. A document will be developed highlighting priorities of action for national EWS development and concrete areas for regional cooperation for the region.

WMO is also hosting a Coordination Meeting with the regional and international institutions and funding agencies on 26 March at the same venue to discuss the outcomes of the MH-EWS Workshop to facilitate a more coordinated approach for supporting EWS projects in this region. I look forward to your agency's participation in this event.
